The concept of “day off” when you’re shooting an indie film is a misnomer.
While it means not physically going to set or turning on a camera, it does not mean we’re not working.
The actors are preparing their lines for the next day, the producers are scouting locations and massaging the schedule, the crew are doing laundry and taking care of all the business they’ve missed from working six consecutive twelve hour days.
Still, the concept of a day off is lovely.
It means spending time with loved ones; although, when you are in the trenches with your cast and crew, they become your family. They become your loved ones.
And you can’t wait to get back to them tomorrow.
